May 14 - Mississippi River Flood 2011 - Morganza Flood Gates

Thursday the water behind the flood gates in Louisiana, along the the Mississippi River was 58 feet. At 60 feet it will spill over the flood gates. It is expected by many that the gates will be opened today, May 14 (Saturday), and up to 3 million acres could be inundated. 15,000 structures are believed to be in the area that will receive flood water.

50 DOT trucks are working to help crews build a two mile levy to save 240 houses, a power substation, and an oil refinery. National Guard troops are filling and placing sandbags in another parish. 2 other cities are building fortifications up to 10,000 feet.
