End of the News Week SPECIAL POST: What we get from Japan

So what exactly do we depend on Japan for?

According to the "Office of the United States Trade Representative", in 2009 the five largest import categories were: Vehicles ($31.5 billion), Machinery ($19.5 billion), Electrical Machinery ($15.4 billion), Optic and Medical Instruments ($4.8 billion), and Organic Chemicals ($2.8 billion).

U.S. imports of agricultural products from Japan totaled $507 million in 2009. Leading categories include: snack foods (including chocolate) ($54 million), wine and beer ($39 million), and processed fruit and vegetables ($34 million).

The 4th largest export destination for our goods and also 4th largest trade partner in total, is Japan, over $205 billion, both directions. Goods and services combined, is also major trade, over $270 billion.
